I consider riding to be something you never truly master. There is always something new to learn and discover. Or, often in my case, something you once knew to remember. Does this happen to you? Do you 'forget' some of the basics on your way, shall we say, up the ladder? I'm like a lot of people in that I'm uneven. I have to constantly remind myself to stay in the center of my horse, keep even pressure on my stirrups, and try to keep my stronger side under control. My horse appreciates it when I get it right. He is so forgiving. I am still amazed, after all these years of riding, that when you push the right buttons, the horse responds correctly. How do they know what to do? And more interestingly, who thought to try this stuff out and see what worked? I know, the Greeks and Romans, but I still find it amazing that if I step in my outside stirrup, my horse will bend around my inside leg! Now if it was just that easy!
