So, what do you do when you can't really ride? Time to go back to basics. As a shaky-tail girl, that means stall bitting and lunging in a bitting harness. Oh sure, I've gotten on and walked Howie around, but if a little more time off will insure a better outcome for my back, well.... I'm happy just getting in the stall and burying my nose in Howie's neck. But seriously, I've decided that I can start back doing some things from the ground that should be of benefit to both of us without doing any harm to my recovery. I lunged Howie tonight and for a horse that has all but had the last 3 months off, he was fantastic. He was responsive and willing and that was all I was looking for. I thought he looked great--but I'm a little prejudiced.
